Japanese architect Jo Nagasaka from Schemata Architecture Office has designed yet another outstanding Aesop store in Ginza, Tokyo, continuing their concept for unique and unusual use of materials in retail design. The skincare brand have taken their hand to a 35 year old shoe shop, beginning with a red brick interior to reference the brick-tiled facade originally created by ‘Milano Shoes’ that was previously painted over by the upstairs tenant. In honour of the buildings origins, red brick courses infill the spaces between wooden shelves where products re displayed, while brick stacks with wooden counter tops house gleaming copper sinks. Nagasaka’s other Aesop Tokyo store was made from the recycled materials of a demolished house and a new concept Aesop kiosk in New York uses 1000 newspapers stacked as shelving. A continued sophisticated design aesthetic that talks to everyone.
